Animal Friends of Pica Pau: Gather All 20 Colorful Amigurumi Characters
by Yan Schenkel
I cannot accurately describe the feeling I get from every one of Yan’s creations. Each of her toys has a purposeful, artistic feel, as if they had stepped out of a carefully illustrated book from my childhood. Their bodies and heads are carefully shaped to be perfect for carrying around like a friend, but not intrusive. Their faces are charming. Every detail is meticulously crafted to create not just a generic toy, but a character with personality and a history. This book lets you bring that detail to your own projects, and bring those characters to life with your own two hands.
The patterns are impeccably written. The colorwork in some faces accounts for differences row-to-row that happen from the twisting of the columns of stitches, and I have yet to discover any errors. My Audrey Gazelle (currently for sale in the shop as of this writing) came out exactly as pictured in the book. The projects are fairly large for amigurumi, and do have a good amount of special details, so I’m not sure I would hand this book to a beginner, but any experienced amigurumist would have a wonderful time with this book. I highly recommend it!
